Following this spectacle of brilliant pink flowers is the emergence of 6 inch leaves shaped like hearts in vibrant tones of yellow, all leaves appearing with a random patchwork of orange and gold spotting on the iridescent leaves. As the 'The Rising Sun®' Redbud tree matures, the mottled colors of the leaves is transformed into a light chartreuse color, but the continuously development of new leaves still appears - brightly colored against the maturing chartreuse leaf background. In the fall the leaves all turn yellow, red and orange. As the winter season arrives, the defoliated tree exhibits bark that is smooth with a soft yellow ornamental coloring. The trees grow slowly towards maturity as small 10 – 12 ft.Specimens in practically any type of soil profile with a high drought tolerance, and the leaves do not exhibit any shriveling effects from the hot summer sun exposure like most other trees.
