The Sherwood Jujube Tree is a remarkable variety known for its sweet, date-like fruit that offers a delicious and unique taste experience. This tree is ideal for gardeners looking for easy-to-grow, hardy fruit that thrives in a variety of climates. The Sherwood jujube is self-pollinating, so you don’t need multiple trees to produce fruit, although planting more can help increase the yield. Its fruit ripens in late summer to fall, offering a late-season harvest of sweet, juicy jujubes that are perfect for fresh consumption, drying, or making preserves. Known for its high resistance to pests and drought, the Sherwood Jujube Tree is an excellent choice for sustainable gardening, providing nutritious, chemical-free fruit for snacking or culinary use.

How to Plant & Grow Sherwood Jujube Trees
- Sun Requirements 🌞: Full sun is essential, requiring at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal fruit production and tree growth.
- Soil Requirements 🌿: Prefers well-draining, slightly alkaline soil (pH 7.0-8.0). Enrich the soil with organic material to promote strong growth.
- Spacing 🌳: Space trees 10-12 feet apart to provide ample room for growth and ensure proper air circulation.
- Mature Size 🌳: The Sherwood Jujube Tree typically grows to a height of 12-20 feet, making it perfect for medium to large-sized gardens or orchards.
Step-by-Step Planting Instructions
- 1️⃣ Prepare the Soil 🧑🌾: Choose a location with well-draining, slightly alkaline soil. Amend with compost or organic matter to improve fertility and ensure strong growth.
- 2️⃣ Dig a Hole 🕳️: Dig a hole that is twice as wide and deep as the root ball to allow for proper root expansion and establishment.
- 3️⃣ Position the Plant 🌿: Place the tree in the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil surface.
- 4️⃣ Backfill & Water 💧: Fill the hole with soil, press gently to remove air pockets, and water thoroughly to settle the roots.
- 5️⃣ Mulch Around the Base 🌱: Apply mulch or Weed Pro Weed Mats around the base to retain moisture and prevent weed competition.
Ongoing Care & Maintenance
- Watering 💧: Keep the soil consistently moist during the first year of planting. Once established, water deeply once a week, especially during dry spells.
- Pruning ✂️: Prune the tree in early spring or late winter to remove dead or damaged wood. Pruning helps improve air circulation and encourages better fruit production.
- Fertilizing 🍃: Use Nutra-Pro 1st Year Fertilizer Paks to promote strong root growth. For mature trees, apply a balanced fertilizer annually in early spring to support fruiting.
- Protection 🛡️: Use Max Growth Tree Shelters to protect young trees from pests, animals, and extreme weather 🌳🛡️.
