Although the Pygmy Date palm tree, Phoenix roebellenii does not show the same cold hardy characteristics as the other Phoenix palm trees, it is a very popular landscape plant. It can be used for outside use but is best when planted in containers to be moved inside during winter or to be grown inside in offices year round. The dwarf nature of the Pygmy Date palm makes it easy to grow and manage with minimum care. The Dwarf Pygmy Date palm tree is armed with sharp spines that are often clipped off in office situations. The tropical look of the Pygmy Date palm leaves is a valuable characteristic for the nursery tree buyer, who shops for tropical office trees that require a minimum of care.

• The Pygmy Date Palm is a graceful delicate palm tree that looks much like a miniature, true date palm tree, Phoenix dactylifera, and producers small black dates on female trees, like its close relative the true date palm tree. The Pygmy Date Palm Tree tends to form clumps (offsets) and are often a favorite plant for container planting to plant in mall gardens or as specimen plants. The Pygmy Date Palm Trees is rugged and tough and resistant to salt water spray, but this palm tree can show damage to foliage if the temperatures drop below 30 degrees F. or high winds. The mature Pygmy Date Palm Tree can grow to 10 feet in height, if given adequate fertilizer and water. The Pygmy Date Palm Tree is native to the tropical rain forests of Indonesia and needs plenty of water, but the containerized Pygmy Date Palm Trees can grow also in sunshine or partial shade.

• The tree is perfect for any landscape, to give off that exotic look of a tropical plant, and is a top choice for low light situations for indoor or outdoor gardens. The Pygmy Date Palm tree flourishes in partial or full shade, but it will not generally succeed in dark indoor corners. The Pygmy Date Palm Tree is a very good container plant when potted indoors, and these trees thrive in low light locations to form excellent container plants at office entrances or indoor palm plants.

Not what I expected November 16, 2017

Ordered 3 3-4ft pygmy palms and was called a couple of days later that they were on back order so had to accept 2-3ft if I wanted them right away. I was credited on my card right away. When the shipment arrived, they were shipped all together and some of the leaves were already turning yellow. I expected the palm to be some what grown but it was in its infant stage?
