The Breda Giant Medlar fruit is large and tasty and is grafted onto pear or quince rootstock. When roasted in butter and citrus slices, the Breda Medlar becomes a gourmet delight fit for royalty. The flavor of the Medlar fruit is unique, being a combination of tastes of fig, loquat, kumquat and dates with earthy, smokey overtones. The seed of the Medlar fruit are somewhat larger than a muscadine grape seed. The Medlar tree, 4-5ft tall can produce a few fruits the first year, followed by reliable harvests every fall and winter.
