•   The White Pine is the tallest tree in the Eastern U.S. with living specimens existing over 180' tall. White Pines tower over even large hardwoods and provide nesting sites and food for many varieties of birds. Because the trunks of the White Pines are so long and straight, they were once used as ship-masts by the British Navy. The wood is also very knot-free since limbs do not normally grow from the bottom half of the tree.
