Mulberry Trees

The Mulberry tree is a very curious and unique tree. Mulberry fruit is similar in appearance to an elongated blackberry or raspberry and have a sweet flavor. Mulberry trees provide the only food source for silkworms. Mulberry fruit is mildly toxic if eaten before ripening and becomes either red or black when ready for harvest.

The white mulberry is the most cold hardy and can be easily grown where temperatures drop to minus 25 degrees F. White mulberries contain more sugar than black or red and can be easily dried to be eaten in Winter.
