You are here: TyTy Online Plant & Fruit Tree Nursery > Flowering Trees > Flowering Dogwood Trees Flowering Dogwood TreesSpring FloweringDogwood trees are most commonly known for white flowers but red and pink varieties are also available. It is not at all unusual for Dogwood trees to be wider than they are tall at full maturity. Dogwoods prefer shade in the hottest parts of the day but thrives on morning sunlight. The petals of Dogwood trees are actually considered bracts but serve the same purpose in attracting pollen spreaders much like bracts of a poinsettia. Each single Dogwood flower actually has a cluster of tiny flowers in the middle, and each matures into an independent fruit.
Dogwoods bloom around the same time as azaleas and release a sweet perfume into the air. White Dogwood trees thrive beneath larger pines and hardwoods because they are shade tolerant.
Flowering Dogwood trees have a black bark which contrasts well with both white and colored flowers. Having a single colored dogwood among many white dogwoods is sure to make your guests look twice.

'My Choice' White Dogwood Tree
Pink Dogwoods withstand salt water near the coast better than most plants. The elegant dogwood petals provide a perfect picnic setting in the Summer when they fall to the ground and create a blanket of color. |
