Fern Plant Perennials

Fern Plants are easily recognized by their beautiful frond leaf structure. They are often found growing in rock crevices, moist forests, swamps, and even on the bark of trees. Ferns reproduce by producing spores, allowing them to survive in habitats which limit flowering plants.

Sunny Pond Aquatic Plants

Perennial plants have delicate, interesting foliage, and they do not flower but produce spores on the underside of the leaves instead of seed. These tiny spores, however, will germinate and form pre-ferns.

Some ferns are cold sensitive and should be grown inside greenhouses as a pot plant or hanging baskets. Most ferns prefer shade and must be given plenty of moisture for maximum growth.

The handsome fronds of ferns perform well in landscape jobs and can be naturalized in woodlands or wild gardens. Ferns are generally used to fill shady beds as a groundcover, or they can be planted near a shady house wall.
