The Baba berry is an unusual combination cross between a blackberry plant with a raspberry plant that originated in California. The Baba Blackberry plant was found growing wild in California and is adapted to most of the United States. The feature of most berry hybrids is an improvement that dramatically exceeds both parents that were involved, and the Baba berry bushes grow strong canes with rapidly increasing rhizomes that spread underneath to multiply bushes much like raspberry bushes do. The Baba berry thrives in acid soils of an optimum pH between 5 and 6 with good drainage. Many acres of the Baba Blackberry Plant blackberry are planted in Texas, where they grow 10 ft. tall and droop from the weight of the fruit, which makes them easy to pick. The first crop ripens in June, the second in October.
