The Tulip Poplar Tree has only a 4 lobed leaf, giving the tree a beautifully unique and almost odd appearance. Tulip Poplars trees grow rather rapidly if planted in good moist soil and are one of the tallest naturally growing trees in the Eastern U.S. The tulip-shaped flower is yellow with a touch of green in the six petals. The Tulip Poplar Tree is a tall, fast-growing shade tree that forms a symmetrical pyramid and matures at a height of 80 ft.

• The lumber of the Tulip Poplar is similar to white pine and is used in the place when wider boards are needed. The Tulip Poplar tree is a very beautiful fast growing shade tree that grows tall. Older trees can grow up to 165 feet tall. Moist ground sites located in deep forests is a preferred habitat for tulip poplar trees that produce fragrant tulip looking flowers that grow tall in the tree. The trunk of the tulip poplar tree is usually straight and the branches is generally shaded out near the lower part of the tree. The beautiful tulip like flowers are chartreuse in color with a brilliant orange center. The large leaves of the tulip poplar tree are constantly in motion even in the slightest breeze.

The lightly green colored leaves of the tulip poplar tree during the month of November change to a bright lemon-yellow color and remain one of the most brilliantly colored forest trees in the fall. • Tulip poplar trees are easy to plant, just place a tree in a 5 gallon size hole with loose soil. The root system is whitish crowed uptight tissue with active root hairs. After covering the roots with loose soil in the hole, about 2 gallons of water should be stirred into the soil mixture, then packed firmly. Watering with about 2 gallons of water every week will start the tree toward a leafing out cycle that should begin in early spring when the air temperature warms to about seventy degrees.
