The Hippeastrum Amaryllis Samba is an improved version of the Star of Holland cultivar, looking very similar, but the red color is brighter, and the overall face of the amaryllis is more profound and rounded. Each petal is edged with roaming white ends. The white pistil is very long and angled up at the tip. The center of the flower is colored with bright green reaching outwards from the base into the white whiskers lining each of the red petals.• The Star of Holland cultivar is an old Dutch bulb offering of bygone amaryllis varieties that remains even today to be a very popular to plant as a containerized floral specimen. The red background color of the blossom is pierced by a slender white band in the center of each petal, and then on each side of the white band are implanted several white whisker-like parallel lines that presents when viewed from a distance, an overall impression of a white star. Most dedicated amaryllis growers are familiar with this very ancient cultivar.
