The small Running Oak, Quercus pumila, shrub spreads by underground runners and grows about 3 ft. tall, and the leaves of the Running Oak Tree are shiny green with a simple oblong form growing on multiple trunk stems. This dwarf oak tree can be easily distinguished by its running nature where it grows in clumps 3 feet tall, and animals and birds love to make their homes in the Running Oak Tree. Acorns from Running Oak Trees feed wildlife animals well into winter months when other foods become scarce.
