The Sumner Pecan tree can grow into an enormous tall tree that can produce hundreds of pounds of pecan nuts each year around Thanksgiving. Because the nuts of the Sumner Pecan tree ripening so late they are not usually recommended to grown further North than Atlanta, GA.

The Sumner pecan tree is resistant to most diseases and is covered with deep green leaves late into the season: the nuts maturing late into the Fall. 55% kernel. The Sumner pecan tree is excellent in Florida and the deep south.
The Sumner pecan nut kernel is easily shelled (papershell) and grows fast as a shade tree in the orchard or backyard. The nut of the Sumner pecan tree is tasty for pecan pie, and ripens near Thanksgiving.

The Sumner pecan originated as a chance seedling that was instantly recognized by Mr. Sumner as an outstanding pecan selection, but this pecan tree was unfortunately propagated on limited scale until the 1980's.
The Sumner Pecan Tree is sometimes called the "Western Schley Pecan Tree," and it originated in Chula, Georgia.
