Angel Red Pomegranate Tree

Angel Red Pomegranate, Punica granatum 'Angel Red' is a medium sized, red pomegranate that grows moderately into bushes that may be pruned easily into tree form. 200 chills are needed (8 days of sub 45 degrees F temperatures) to produce fruit and are considered to be self-fertile. The seeds of the Angel Red pomegranate are small and chewable like citrus rind. Being a hybrid the seed of course, will not germinate to grow new pomegranate plants since they are sterile. The fruits of the Angel Red pomegranate are juice, and a new possible cultivar to supply the juice companies that made Grenadine, the ingredient for many mixed drinks. The deep red color of the Angel Red pomegranate begins to redden in September, about two weeks after the ripening of the Plantation Sweet pomegranate..

Angel Red

Perry Thomason

I planted 200 of the Angel Reds around the first of June in South Texas. They have really taken off, but unfortunately I did have a rather high loss rate, about 15-20%.
They are growing extremely faster than the Wonderful variety in the same soil and conditions. I have them on an automatic drip system to ensure a consistent watering. My soil is on the acidic side, 5.5-5.8 pH.
I would recommend this variety if it is indicated for your climate zone, based on the growth of a little over 2 months. Will be interested in how it fruits and it quality.

Angel Red Pomegranate Tree

Lee

Bare root plants were potted up and put into a hot greenhouse to break dormancy. They took about 2 weeks for the leaf buds to start growing. 2 months later they look great.

I really like this variety. I have a 4-5 yr. tree in my first year. It now has one bloom in June. Growing exceptionally well. I planted it beside a Wonderful(which also is doing great). Ty Ty actually does a good job pruning and taking care of their trees. ALL of my purchases have survived and thrived.

So Far So Good

Arthur Pomerantz

After a week in the ground 4 of the 6 bare root trees that I planted are leafing out. I'm hoping for 1-2 feet of growth this season to get them to 3 feet by this time next year.
