Suggested Amaryllis Potting Techniques

Someone holding the root of a Amaryllis

Step 1: If you buy a well rooted Dutch Amaryllis Bulb and plant it in a one gallon pot, the flower stalk should appear in about 3 weeks.

Step 2: A good organic potting mix should be selected and the Amaryllis bulb should be covered with a will drained potting soil.

Step 3: The soil should be pressed down with the fingers leaving half of the Amaryllis bulb uncovered to promote early flowering. A space of one to two inches should be left empty of soil in the top part of the pot, so that when watering the water will evenly seep down toward the bottom of the container to wet all the Amaryllis roots.

Step 4: Water the Amaryllis bulb well one time, but do not water again until flowering begins and the leaves appear. To promote your Amaryllis to faster flowering, place the pot in a well lit room that is heated above 70 degrees F. To delay flowering of the Amaryllis bulb place the container in a room temperature below 70 degrees F.
