Blackberry Bushes

Blackberry bushes have been feeding humans for over 2000 years. Wild blackberries are known to spread quickly and can be painful to harvest since they are naturally thorny. Modern science has allowed us to create blackberry bush varieties which are thornless and produce a higher quality blackberry. Thorny varieties yield best if planted with a second plant for pollination and hybrid thornless blackberries are fully self pollinating. Thorned cultivars do seem to give better protection for small nesting animals.
