The Tonto Crepe Myrtle Tree is a semi-dwarf that only reaches 8-10' tall. The dark green leaves of the Tonto Crepe Myrtle Tree change to maroon in the fall. Bright Red Flowers appear in the summer and contrast beautifully with the white exfoliating bark. This crape myrtle is the winner of the Georgia Gold Medal Award as a unique flowering tree, and the blooming begins late in the season and continues from July through August. When used as a semi-dwarf tree, this crape myrtle can be massed on the borders or used as a hedge or foundation plant. The fall leaf color is bright maroon, and the flowers are beet-red during 100 days of flowering, and it grows to 15 ft. tall. This crape myrtle is salt water tolerant, and grows well as a landscape shrub. The dark red appearance of Tonto Crape Myrtle makes it an excellent tree for planting in urban environments, to break up the harsh look of concrete.
