Sonderegger Pine Tree
The Sonderegger Pine, also known as the Bastard Pine, is a hybrid pine species which is a cross of the Loblolly Pine and the Longleaf Pine. The Sonderegger has a striped brown bud which distinguishes it from the white bud of the Longleaf Pine. The Sonderegger Pine takes from its parents the best qualities of each, growing tall quickly like the Loblolly and producing long needles and large cones like the Longleaf. The hybrid vigor of the Sonderegger Pine Tree is apparent, even in one year old seedling's making it very desirable as a fast growing landscape barrier.
The characteristics of the Sonderegger Pine Tree lie somewhere in between both parents, such as heavy lower limbs, long needles, and buds that are striped brown and green. The Sonderegger Pine Tree is extremely vigorous, much moreso than any other pine tree, and will attract wildlife animals, such as deer, game birds, squirrels, as well as others, and it makes an excellent windbreaker for you landscape, and provides a nest for various birds.
