The long, wide leaves of the Lady Palm point straight up in an erect orientation, much more than any other shade grown palm. The Lady Palm is used to make a Japanese garden and is commonly found in malls in giant bush clusters or in office and commercial indoor entrance gardens. This palm tree is considered to be a very desirable plant for indoor commercial malls because of its undemanding maintenance requirements, and its exotic tropical appearance.
This palm grows numerous clusters of offspring that surround the mother palm, and it grows 8-12 ft. in very dense clusters and clumps of multi-stemmed trunks and finger-like leaflets. The Lady Palm Tree shows some resistance to cold and can resprout if the potted tree is left outside during a freeze. The Lady Palm is highly desirable for growing indoors for that tropical, green, lush appearance, and the dense foliage of the Lady Palm is a valuable indoor palm tree that thrives in low light situations. Lady Palm, Rhapis excelsa, is an excellent indoor palm tree to containerize in low light situations.
