The Gloriosa lily rhizome grows into a climbing, flowering vine that sends out tendrils that attach the climbing stems to fences and even concrete walls. The leaves are lance-like and are attached to very fast growing stems that bloom intermittently during the summer and during the fall season with reflexed petals, resulting in spider-like blooms in exotic color mixes, of red, orange, yellow or even striped pink. The evolving flowers are long lasting and are highly prized as cut flowers by florists, because of their exotic look and their extended life when used as a cut flower. The Gloriosa lily bulbs are often planted on fences, because of their continuous flowers that are so well adapted for growing in full sun.
