Fantasy Maple Tree
The fall coloring of Red-Purple leaves transforms your home landscape into a technicolor dream that brightens brilliantly at a change of seasons from lustrous green leaf canopy to a colorful reminder that growing time is over as dormancy approaches and a term of tree rest begins. The Fantasy Maple tree produces no male flowers meaning that it is a hybrid maple tree and is sterile with no messy seed production. The fact that hybrid vigor results from this genetic cross between a Red Maple and a Silver Maple tree means that the Fantasy Maples are fast growing trees, faster growing then either parent.
Because this hybrid Maple Tree only growing 20-25 feet tall it is often desirable to plant underneath utility poles, since the power company will not prune it. The Fantasy Maple Trees were nursery introduced through the U.S. National Arboretum research project. During the Spring the Fantasy Maple tree buds into growth early, revealing medium green leaves with consistent coloration until the ruby red can spectacle in the fall. The bright, waxy, green leaves of the Fantasy Maple Tree turn brilliant red-orange in the fall, even in warm climates. Cold hardy maple trees are valuable to plant in Northern States, and the Fantasy maple tree is very adaptable to frigid winters, surviving in USDA zones 4-8
