Red Japanese Maple Trees are the most popular Japanese ornamental Maple Tree type, and these trees are available as distinct grafted cultivars, such as, "Bloodgood", "Crimson Queen", however, the "Bloodgood" is considered the best Japanese Maple cultivar that consistently holds the red leaf color all season. The Japanese Maple Tree is a slow-growing, deciduous tree that grows 6-8" tall and 8-10" wide with attractive, cascading branches. Also during the fall leaf color change, the twigs are covered with small seeds that have two wings that are attached and float to the ground where new trees will germinate from the seeds during the spring. The Bloodgood Japanese Maple tree leaves change colors quickly in early spring, and during the fall the fiery red leaves change to brilliant red, all at once, before blanketing the ground.
The Japanese Maple will grow in almost every area of the U.S., and the Bloodgood Japanese Red Maple Tree grows best in a rich soil that is moist but well drained and a pH that is consistently acid in nature. The dark red leaf color of the Japanese Maple is very attractive. The brilliant red color of the Bloodgood Japanese Maple Tree dramatically changes from purple to bright red, suddenly in the fall after the first frost. The Japanese Maple is popular in the art of bonsai tree making. During the summer the red leaves turn deep purple that is sometimes described as wine red, burgundy or magenta in color.
