The Baba berry is an unusual combination cross between a blackberry plant with a raspberry plant that originated in California. The feature of most berry hybrids is an improvement that dramatically exceeds both parents that were involved, and the Baba berry bushes grow strong canes with rapidly increasing rhizomes that spread underneath to multiply bushes. The Baba berry thrives in acid soils of an optimum pH between 5 and 6 with good drainage. The first crop ripens in June, the second in October.
